Black Sea Botanicals Veterinary (BSB Vet) is a family-owned business dedicated to creating premium herbal care products inspired by the ancient botanical traditions of Georgia, a country on the eastern coast of the Black Sea. Two families, one Georgian and one American, formed BSB Vet to harness Georgian herbal traditions for the benefit of our animals. As lifelong animal lovers, we believe our pets deserve to benefit from products created from nature, using the same thoughtful care and attention to quality found in the best natural products available for human skincare.

BSB Skin Rescue Balm is based on a formula developed in the 1970’s by Vitali Darsania, the father of our Georgian partners. He spent years dedicated to creating an ointment for human use based on the ancient herbal traditions of Georgia. Georgia has long been recognized for its rich biodiversity and ancient history of plant use, which is even chronicled in Greek mythology. Vitali researched ancient Georgian texts and experimented with the addition of botanicals which had been introduced to Georgia over the centuries and had become naturalized. After decades of use, many people informally came to use Vitali’s ointment for their pets.

Vitali has long since passed, but in partnership with his son, we embarked on an effort to refine his ointment to create a premium balm specifically for use on animals, removing non-botanical elements, adding ingredients such as Sea Buckthorn oil, and adopting quality standards used for high grade natural cosmetics. The result is BSB Skin Rescue, a refined, modern expression of vegan botanical care for pets. We source herbs sustainably from the Caucasus mountains where they are gathered in the wild or grown on small farms. We prepare them using natural methods, without chemicals, to preserve their quality and potency.
